Adding layers to the map
Assuming you have downloaded data files (*.geojson, *.json, *.shp, *.dbf, *.prj) onto your device, the following steps show how to import them into the app.
- After launching the app, tap on the floating action button on the bottom right of the screen.
The layers bottom sheet pops up. - Tap on + Add layer.
The Import files dialog appears. - Tap on Format to choose the source data format, e.g. GeoJSON or Shapefile.
- Tap on the Browse button below the Format to select the data file(s).
The selected file(s) are shown in the Import files dialog.
Overriding the coordinate system - Optional. If the source data file does not have a coordinate reference system or you want to manually assign one, then check on the Override source coordinate reference system box. Otherwise, skip to step 8.
- Then tap on the gear icon to the right.
The Select coordinate system screen appears. - Search to find the desired coordinate system, e.g. WGS 84. Tap on the list to choose it.
The selected WGS 84 system is displayed in the Import files dialog. - Tap on Ok.
The map layer is imported into the app and listed in the layers bottom sheet.
Using the map layers bottom sheet
The map layers bottom sheet can be used to manipulate the map layer including:
- Zoom to layer extents
- Toggle layer visibility
- Delete layer
- Show layer data records
- Show about layer
You can also choose a different base map background and toggle its visibility.
- If your device has a small screen, tap on the 3 vertical dots icon to open up the layer commands dialog. Otherwise long press the layer name.
The layer commands dialog appear. - To see general information about the layer, tap on Show about layer.
- To see the tabular data records about the layer, tap on Show layer data records.
The data bottom sheet appears. - To delete a layer from the app, tap on the Delete layer command. Tap Yes to confirm.
- To see all the layer data in the map view, tap on Zoom to layer extents.
- To turn the layer display off or on in the map view, tap on Toggle layer visibility.
- To change the base map background layer, tap the Background list item. Then tap on the desired item.
The Select base map layer dialog appears.
Using the Layer data records bottom sheet
If the layer data records bottom sheet is not opened, tap on the Show layer data records from the Layers bottom sheet - step 3 in the previous section. The Layer data records bottom sheet can be used to view at the data in a table and locate and highlight the corresponding feature on the map view.
- In the data table, tap on a row.
The corresponding feature on the map is selected and centered in the map view. - To view information about the feature in a list, you can long press the data row, or tap on the feature on the map.
The information bottom sheet appears. - To copy the attribute value to the clipboard, long press on the desired attribute, e.g. LOCALITY.
Using the Search
The Search icon on the App bar can be used to perform a free text search on the layer attributes.
- On the App bar, tap on the Search icon.
The Search screen appears. - Optional. Tap on the gear icon to select a different layer to search.
- In the Search field, type in the text string to search for in the layer, e.g. pen..
The list is filtered. - Tap on the list entry to locate and center the corresponding feature on the map.
Save the layers
If you want to persist the layers across different app sessions, then do the following steps:
- Tap on the hamburger icon on the left of the App bar.
The Navigation drawer opens. - Tap on Save session.
The loaded layers are saved to the cache.
Additional settings
You can use the Navigation drawer to perform additional app related settings including:
- Changing the language
- Change the theme
- Changing the map selection color
- Changing the map background color
Tapping Settings in the Drawer will display the Settings screen.
